Aquaman: A Feast For The Eyes

Calling all DC movie fans, the long-awaited big screen version of Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, hits theaters this Friday, December 21st. The big question is: Is it worth the ticket price?

In my humble opinion, yes. I admit it. I am a comic book movie fan girl. I grew up watching the Justice League on Saturday morning cartoons and was obsessed with the cheesy Patrick Duffy 70s TV series The Man From Atlantis. And I thoroughly enjoyed Aquaman.

I am all about special effects and action. And with Aquaman, you definitely get plenty of both. Yes, there were some cheesy parts, but I felt like they kept them to a minimum. But being fascinated with the mythic world, I love how Atlantis is brought to life in this movie. And it goes beyond just the visuals, to tell the story of how Atlantis fell and what happened to the various people, who split apart upon the fall.

The bottom line is that Jason Momoa is so much fun in the title role in this movie–he comes across as bold, yet vulnerable. And I was surprised that I enjoyed Amber Heard in her role as Mera.

Additionally, there are performances by other A-level stars, including Patrick Wilson as King Orm, Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother Queen Atlanna and Willem Dafoe as royal adviser Vulko. It was also a pleasant surprise to see Dolph Lundgren appearing in the movie as King Nereus, Mera’s father. Star Wars fans will get a kick out of seeing Jango Fett a-k-a Temeura Morrison turn in his armor in exchange for a lighthouse to step into the role of Arthur Curry/Aquaman’s  dad.
